The STEM Lab Sponsorship Agreement Signing Ceremony in Tay Ninh


On April 5th, Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam (MEVN), in cooperation with Teach For Viet Nam (*), officially signed a sponsorship agreement with 3 secondary schools in Tan Chau district to build two (02) STEM creative spaces that integrate environmental protection education (E-STEM) and one (01) 4.0  vegetable garden in Tay Ninh province. This campaign belongs to the series of Sustainable Initiatives CSR of Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam. Previously on Feb 6th, the project was launched on the mobile payment platform MOMO to urge everyone to join hands to implement the project by donating their golden pigs. Accordingly, the program had 612,000 participants donating 3,100,000 golden pigs. The number of golden pigs is converted by MEVN into cash equivalent to 310,000,000 VND to construct an equal and excellent education for children.

Tay Ninh province is well known not only as famous tourist destinations such as Ba Den mountain, Dau Tieng Lake, etc. but also known as a capital of solar power because of its hot and sunny weather. The temperature during the day can be as high as 39⁰C. With that extreme weather conditions, Tay Ninh often has difficulty in agriculture and business development. It is necessary to apply advanced technologies, science into everyday activities to improve the quality of life. Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam cooperates with Teach For Viet Nam to invest in building STEM creative space and 4.0 vegetable garden for schools in Tan Chau district which improve the quality of local human resources to contribute to the sustainable development of Tay Ninh province.

In the first year, Thi Tran Tan Chau Secondary School and Thanh Dong Secondary School will be invested two STEM labs equipment, and Suoi Day Secondary School will have a 4.0 vegetable garden.

Mr. Nguyen Thinh Hung - Head of Tan Chau Education and Training Department, Tay Ninh Province, said: “We are very pleased with the contribution to build the environmental activities, science, and technology for students in the area”. The locality is mainly engaged in agriculture, so the upcoming STEM classes promise to help children enhance their skills and solutions to improve Tan Chau's economy and agriculture in the future, he shared.

At the ceremony, Mr. Shunichi Umeto - Managing Director of Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam awarded funding to build two (02) STEM Labs and one (01) 4.0 vegetable garden, as well as the cost of training STEM teachers for each school.

STEM education is an integrated educational method between 4 fields of Science (science), Technology (technology), Engineering (engineering), Mathematics (mathematics), they are integrated and complementary to each other, helping students to learn both masters the theory and practice, create real products, apply to life. The integration of environmental education into STEM (E-STEM) helps towards a sustainable future.

Most of the laboratory rooms at the school sites are not fully equipped with tools and facilities to serve STEM practice and practical research.

Therefore, the investation in a STEM lab is an opportunity to help teachers and students here have more conditions and space to be creative, figure out more new ideas to improve their personal capacity to solve local problems.

Along with the STEM Lab, the 4.0 vegetable garden at the school not only helps children to experience a lively learning space but also helps multiply the nature lovers as well as create favourable conditions for students to practice, have a sense of labor, know how to cherish the achievements of labor.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Trang - CEO of Teach For Viet Nam, said: "The vegetable garden is taken care of by every class, all profits from the garden will be reinvested into service-learning activities and student application.  Students are not only learning how to plant and take care of a vegetable garden but also get acquainted and develop the ability to manage work and business management - these are very useful skills for students later." In the future, this vegetable garden will be upgraded with innovative technology products by students through STEM applications such as automatic irrigation systems.
